Trump In Europe

US President Donald Trump accompanied by the First Lady Melania Trump landed in Melsbroek, Belgium, on July 10, 2018. The president is due to attend a NATO summit in Brussels on July 11, 2018.

At the summit, President Trump is expected to reiterate his call to European member states of NATO to take fully financial responsibility for their security through contributing at least 2% of their GDP to the defense alliance. So far, USA pays the bulk of NATO's expenses, albeit they are European member states that are most worried about some perceived security threats, particularly from Russia.

From Brussels, President Trump will make a short visit to Britain, before proceeding to Helsinki, Finland for a meeting with President Vladimir Putin of Russia. Earlier on arrival in Belgium, President Trump described President Putin as a competitor, and emphasized getting along with Russia and China was a good thing.
