Zimbabwe's Mnangagwa Escapes Assassination Attempt


President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe escaped unharmed after a suspected improvised explosive devise exploded in an election campaign rally in a stadium in the country's southern city of Bulawayo on June 23, 2018.

The explosion occurred at the VIP podium just as the president was leaving the stadium after delivering a speech. About 20 people are reported to have been injured by the blast, including some government officials.

President Mnangagwa alias the Crocodile is said to have described the incident as an assassination attempt planned by what he called his normal enemies.

Zimbabwe's General Elections 2018 will be held on July 30, 2018. President Mnangagwa has promised free and fair elections albeit some of his hardcore critics are skeptical claiming the Crocodile has no democratic bone in his body!

Elsewhere in Africa same day, in Ethiopia the country's recently elected Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed escaped unhurt a grenade attack during a political rally in the capital Addis Ababa. Mr Ahmed was seated at the stage after delivering a speech when the attack took place. 4 people are reported to have been killed and over 150 injured in the attack.
