DRC's Main Opposition Party Elects Felix Tshisekedi As New Leader


Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)'s main opposition party Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS) announced on March 31, 2018, that it has elected Felix Tshisekedi as its new leader. The latter is the son of the party's former leader Etienne Tshisekedi who died on February 2017.

Felix Tshisekedi is reported to have been elected with a huge majority, and will also be UDPS presidential candidate in DRC's forthcoming general elections scheduled for December 23, 2018. The elections have been postponed twice since December 2016 when they were originally supposed to be held.
