DRC Rebel Leader Ntabo Ntaberi Sheka Surrenders

Democratic Republic of Congo's rebel leader, Ntabo Ntaberi Sheka surrendered to UN peacekeepers based in the country, on July 26, 2017. Mr Sheka is the leader of a notorious armed rebel group called Mai Mai Sheka. The group is alleged to have committed various crimes against humanity, including killing of innocent people and mass rape. Some political analysts believe that Mr Sheka's voluntary surrender to the peacekeepers is out of fear for his own life, emanating from growing military strength of a rival rebel group led by a former colleague.
