31st Ordinary Summit Of AU Heads Of State Starts In Mauritania

The 31st Ordinary Summit of African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government began on June 25, 2018, in Nouakchott, Mauritania. The meeting will culminate with an assembly of heads of state and government on July 1 - 2, 2018.

One of the main issues addressed by the ongoing the summit is corruption in Africa. About 25% of Africa's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is said to vanish through corruption.

Also addressed, is the question of ratification by national parliaments of the recently signed African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA). So far, out of the 44 countries that signed on the agreement, only 4, namely Kenya, Rwanda, Niger, and Ghana, have ratified it!
